there are 13 different types of otters. (otters guide: how to identify and species facts) nTwo of them live in the US; the North American river otter and the South American sea otter (can also be found in Asia!) nFive of them are found in Asia; the Asian small-clawed otter, Eurasian otter (can also be found in Europe!), smooth-coated otter, the hairy-nosed otter, and the South American sea otter. nSpotted-neck otters and marine otters are common in South America, while Neotropical otters can be found all the way from Argentina through South to Central America and even Northwest Mexico. Another otter that lives in South America is the giant otter that grows up to 2 meters long ! nSea otters (not South American) can be found in many places, like the northern and eastern North American ocean, the Russian east coast, Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, California, and new colonies in Mexico and Japan. nThe African and Congo clawless otters both live in warm climates, the African otter inhabiting sub-Saharan Africa and the Congo otter in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
