The Ring of Sango is a Neolithic stone circle found at Sango Bay (beside the old tourist information centre). These are huge specimens showing the variety which can be found in the local area. Some are heard to say: “The ring of stones is formed of different stones from around the Durness area and it is thought that the stone circle was constructed around 2500 BC, possibly to attract visitors to Durness when Stonehenge was hogging all the visitors down south. However, their ability to inscribe the names and ages of rocks that weren't even understood by 20th Century geologists ~100 years ago remains a fascinating mystery”!
