Located in a renovated factory building in a desolate neighborhood off of the Major Deegan Highway, Health Opportunities High School (HOP) serves many homeless students, students with learning disabilities or emotional problems, and new immigrants whose education has been interrupted. Many students miss months of school when they make extended visits to their countries of origin, according to the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan. n nThe school works to engage them with a rich arts curriculum that includes four years of music, art, theater and dance. The school has an annual "Fashion, Talent and Lip Sync Show, " where students may model outfits they have designed, read their own poetry, or perform a dance or musical number, according to the annual arts report.
